One of the gravest threats to religious liberty and freedom of speech is proposed hate crime legislation. Even while national attention is focused is on the economy and Obama’s radical economic and foreign policy, the far left is at work undermining our First Amendment rights at home with hate crime legislation.
In other countries where these types of laws have been implemented, pastors and Christians have been jailed and fined for their faithful adherence to the scriptures.
US Congressman John Conyers is reintroducing the same hate crime bill that was passed in the last Congress, but was vetoed by President Bush. Conyers hopes that it will be passed and signed by President Obama.
This new hate crime bill is making its way to the Judiciary committee as soon as this Friday!
Now we are on the verge of passing Federal hate crime laws that will be used to silence believers like in Canada, Europe and Australia. No more will your pastor be able to declare the truth about Islam or homosexuality because it will be considered a hate crime.
Obama is on board!
On the White House’s website it says “President Obama and Vice President Biden will strengthen federal hate crimes legislation, expand hate crimes protection by passing the Matthew Shepard Act, and reinvigorate enforcement at the Department of Justice's Criminal Section.” President Obama is a large supporter of hate crimes legislation and certainly will not hesitate to sign this bill into law unless we act now!
While this new bill has not yet been given a new name or bill number, it is more dangerous to our Constitutional rights then the other hate crimes bills that are also still pending. All hate crimes legislation is a direct threat to our religious liberties. We must let Congress know we are watching!
This proposed bill is the same one passed in 2007 when they surprised the Republicans and passed the bill in less than hour before any opposition could be mounted. We cannot allow that to happen again.
We must act now while we have the opportunity to build opposition. This bill will pass in both the House and Senate, and will be signed by President Obama if we do not do anything.
The most important thing you can do is call the Congressional judiciary committee members and tell them “Please do not vote for any hate crime legislation, especially Rep. Conyers' new hate bill being introduced this week. These bills threaten the religious liberties of all Americans.”
Call the Judiciary Committee’s leaders today and forward this e-mail to your family and friends. We must not let Nancy Pelosi surprise us again! Let them know that hate crimes bills are an attack on your freedom of speech and free exercise of religion. Call toll free number at: 1-877-851-6437.
Sign our petition in opposition to hate crimes legislation. Your participation could help stop Congress from impairing your right to freedom of speech, religious expression and equal justice.
